Music between the needle and the algorithm

Previous •

“Putting on a vinyl record is a decision.” You take it out of the sleeve, lower the needle and give an album your attention. In a world of endless scrolling, that small ritual feels surprisingly radical.

For Andrey Galich, Head of the Concertmaster Project and Incentive Club, vinyl is also a personal travel diary. His collection numbers more than 6,000 records. Each one can bring back a city, a record shop, a conversation – sometimes even the weather on the day he found it.

His affection for analogue sound comes with no fear of new technology. He already uses AI to create background tracks and musical sketches for events. Just as synthesisers and acoustic instruments learned to share the stage, vinyl and AI have room in the same musical era. One invites us to slow down; the other opens up new possibilities for making music.

Neither replaces the energy of people making and experiencing music together. Read more about Andrey’s musical world in his interview for the spring issue of MUSIC&More.
